Tuan Anh warrior and the return of the original Vietnam team

An impressive 90 minutes of Tuan Anh showed that the best Vietnam team under Park Hang-seo has always been a team full of fighting spirit. https://www.nhaxinhcenter.com
The consecutive victories of Vietnamese teams against Thailand in recent years, culminating in the destruction of U23 Thailand in My Dinh, made many people believe that Vietnam should play fair matches with Thailand.

However, 90 minutes before Thailand in the 2022 World Cup qualifier on 5/9 night proved the opposite. Vietnam is not suitable and not strong enough to control, but it will always be a very dangerous team with a defensive kicking style.

The original and the best version
Before Thailand, the Vietnamese team simulated the gameplay that the U23 team played in U23 Asia in Changzhou, also the simplest and most dangerous version under Park Hang-seo.

Coach Park's army comes from a 5-4-1 diagram and defensive trend. Midfield pair Tuan Anh, Do Hung Dung kicked low, Nguyen Trong Hoang rarely rose, while Tien Linh "strength" and Van Toan "speed" were considered as two defenders from afar.

Before Thailand did not hide the intention to control the game by using 7 midfielders in the starting line-up, the Vietnamese team took the initiative to cede the game to the opponent. Quang Hai and his teammates control the ball less, bounce less, launch fewer attacks but it is important that the opportunity is not less than the opponent.

If Thailand has about 3 dangerous opportunities of Supachok Sarachat, Thitipan Puangchan, Vietnam will have about 4 similar situations of Van Toan, Cong Phuong and Quang Hai. Most of Vietnam's chances are face-to-face situations, coming from quick counter-attacks. The difference in the number of opportunities between the two sides is not much though the ball control ratio is very large difference.

Obviously, the Vietnam team under Park Hang-seo is still the best when standing at the lower door, accepting to give the match to the opponent.

It is also a reasonable choice of Mr. Park for two reasons. Firstly, Vietnam is playing away from an opponent who is eager to win. Second, 10 days of preparation was not really enough because the Hanoi club players only gathered a few days before the match. As Mr. Park himself said, he must spend most of their time recovering, not developing new tactics.

In this context, choosing a style that the team has mastered is the wise decision of Park Hang-seo coach.

Tuan Anh "warriors" and new things
But that does not mean that Vietnam recruiting against Thailand is nothing new. At King’s Cup, the Vietnamese team employed five mature players from the HAGL JMG Academy against Thailand. Meeting the opponent in the World Cup qualifiers, it continued to repeat when Cong Phuong, Van Toan, Tuan Anh, Nguyen Phong Hong Duy and Vu Van Thanh all came out. In the absence of Xuan Truong, it is still a sign that the people of HAGL can be valued.

5 HAGL players present on the field are a significant highlight if they know that HAGL players have never occupied the most important position under Park Hang-seo in Vietnam and U23 countries. The new message is clear. No matter who you are, where you come from, how your club is playing, Vietnam always has a place if you are willing to change.

Before Thailand, Tuan Anh "warrior" has replaced Tuan Anh "artist". It is also an upgraded version of Tuan Anh who played at King’s Cup 2019, which means stronger, more drastic and full of confidence. Tuan Anh himself after coming back from injury has changed himself. He played more simply, trying to avoid the five-and-a-half games, defending by keeping his position and actively improving his fitness to play the ball with higher intensity. https://www.nhaxinhcenter.com/tin-tuc-kien-truc/924-tay-tu-trach-va-dong-tu-trach.html

Mr. Tuan Anh of Mr. Park not only knows the defense and disputes. He also knows how to make mistakes and is willing to make mistakes if that is a tactical requirement. Beside him, another name HAGL is also being used as deputy team leader Van Toan.

In the HAGL team, they are the simplest and most pragmatic players. Both Van Toan and Tuan Anh are developing in the direction of adapting to Park's tactics and more suitable for the Vietnamese team. The fact that they, not Cong Phuong, is cumbersome or Xuan Truong is weak, constantly kicking against Thailand is evidence that Mr. Park prioritizes those who want to change and adapt to the team's unique style of play.

That view also partly explains that Trong Hoang and Doan Van Hau were still named. Because in a short time, finding new faces to understand the Vietnamese game's play style is not easy.

Nishino's Thailand will be even scarier
Despite these positive points, it must be acknowledged that the Vietnam recruitment in Thammasat is still quite far from the best version. As Tuan Anh became more and more progressive, Van Toan became more harmonious but the new energy from them was not enough to fill the gaps. Compared to the 2019 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team played Thailand without four big stars: Tran Dinh Trong, Phan Van Duc, Nguyen Anh Duc and Doan Van Hau (only came in the last few minutes).

Losing more than 1/3 of the squad but still playing well, holding strong opponents away, that result is commendable.

As for Thailand, Mr. Nishino also showed the level when making a series of changes in just 10 days. In attack, the Japanese strategist holds true that Supachai Jaided is not the only spearhead ... not giving this player the starting kick. The seven midfielders who started the game did not reduce the number of dangerous opportunities in Thailand.

If Puangchan or Sarachat were a bit more accurate, Thailand would have been able to keep 3 points to its home country. 1998 midfielder Sarachat is also the best player on the Thai side when constantly "torturing" Trong Hoang and Duy Manh on the left wing (in the direction of Thailand's attack).

In the middle, the Thai midfielder controlled the ball as calculated, and Chanahip proved why he can compare shoes with Andres Iniesta in Japan. The goalkeeper position was also a test of Mr. Nishino's success when new captain Sivaruk Tedsungnoeng caught well, made no mistakes and showed the influence of an experienced senior.

Compared to June, Thailand team in World Cup qualifiers proved to be a completely different team. They are proactive, tight, playing professionally and know how to strangle the opponent's "space". It can be boldly said that Vietnam was lucky to meet Thailand in the first match. When Mr. Nishino has more time, Thailand will be even scarier.

Both teams still have "space" to strengthen before the rematch. That promises 90 minutes return extremely attractive at My Dinh next November.
